Every Parent Matters Network
Haiti family fund-raising event
21st February, 2010

Children and families come together to Love Haiti and send messages of hope

Children and families from across Merseyside will gather at Liverpool’s Sefton Park later this month in a show of support for the people of Haiti left devastated by the earthquake.

Bands, choirs and dancers will perform at the free event at the Palm House and families are being urged to go along to pledge their support, celebrate life and send messages of hope to Haiti.

Liverpool Every Parent Matters Network has joined forces with the Love Haiti campaign and charity Plan UK to organise the event which aims to raise awareness of the continuing struggles in Haiti. It will also raise funds to help the long-term recovery of family life in devastated communities.

“Our aim is to connect the well-known compassion and generosity of Merseyside people with the devastation and trauma inflicted on thousands of families in Haiti,” said organiser Paul Barnard, project director of Every Parent Matters Network.

“We have teamed up with the Love Haiti campaign and Plan UK and have been able to pull this together very quickly, largely thanks to the energy and commitment of many people and performers who have generously volunteered their support.”

Clair Chapman, of the Love Haiti Campaign, who recently organised a successful fund-raising gig at Liverpool’s Cavern Club, said: “This event is shaping up to be a hugely enjoyable day out for families from Merseyside and beyond. All funds raised will be going towards crucial work already being carried out by Plan UK to support the particular needs of children in disaster-stricken Haiti.”
Those due to perform on the day include the Hope and Harmony Choir; drummers BeatLife; Rumjig and Positive Impact, whilst special guests will include Wirral-based Methodist minister Rev Marcus Torchon who comes from Haiti and has family in the country.

The event is being held from 12-4pm on Sunday, 21st February when people can also make a donation and learn more about the work that is being done to help rebuild Haiti.

All donations made will be directed to the charity Plan UK who already have people working hard in the heart of all affected areas of Haiti.

Organisations and businesses can pledge support by making an online donation of £25 or more. They will receive a ‘Love Haiti Pledge Certificate’ and their logo and details will be on display during the event.
